Patra, short for Cleopatra, is a domestic short hair cat and her odd coloring is called “tortoiseshell” which is a mixture of red tabby color and black.  Just so you know, like the "calico" colored cats, only female cats can be this color.

I worked at an animal shelter. This 6 month old kitten was in rabies observation for scratching someone. As a kitten, she only scratched in play but because she was a stray, she had to go to rabies observation due to city ordinances. When her ten days of observation were up, she was going to be put to sleep. This had been the standard practice of the city animal shelter at that time. It was a sad reality but there were just too many stray animals and irresponsible pet owners in our city. Since my task was to clean the cages of the animals in rabies observation, I had gotten to know and fall in love with this cat. I am not a cat person, but she charmed me. So when the staff came in to collect her for euthanasia, I yelled, “No! Not that one!” Two days later, I took her home. She is the BEST cat I have ever had.
